In real estate, there is a saying that the three most important features of a house are location, location, location. When it comes to reading, I find myself drawn to books that take place in New Orleans. There's something about the language, culture, folklore, food, and music that I find fascinating. I suppose it started when I read Cry Wolf by Tami Hoag. I also enjoyed her book, A Thin Dark Line. Nora Roberts' Midnight Bayou was good too. More
recently, I read Moonlight Scandals by Jennifer Armentrout.
Â
Sometimes the location is the just the place the story occurs, but in some books, setting is almost another character. I know people who like to read British mysteries and others who enjoy Scottish historical romances. Lauren Blakely has a few books that incorporate setting wonderfully, whether it's in New York City or Paris.Â
Â
Nearly all my books are set in Central Virginia, where I live. I grew up in Northern California, but have lived in Virginia for nearly 30 years. Like New Orleans, the south has a unique language, culture, folklore, and food, some of which I try to capture in my books.
