And now...without further ado...
The blurb needs a little work, but here it is...
Tess Valentine's only goals for her trip to her home city of San Francisco
are to legally take over her trust and to show her sexy husband, Jack Valentine, the sights of the city. She certainly has no intentions of visiting her parents, who have resented her since her grandfather gave her the trust money her parents thought should go to them. When her parents invite her to dinner, Tess reluctantly agrees, despite her concerns that her parents may once again resort to unscrupulous tactics to try and take her trust. With the trust paperwork signed, Tess decides to have
one last visit and then they can part ways. The last thing she expects on her visit is for her father to be arrested for the murder of his mistress.
Tess has no intention of helping her father despite her mother's pleas. But when her cousin, the lawyer Tess' father hires to represent him and the one family member who'd been nice to Tess growing up, asks for Tess' help in the case, she agrees to investigate. Turns out several people could have wanted her father's mistress dead, including
the victims sister, a disgruntled employee, and even Tess' mother, who is all of a sudden very cozy with Tess' trust lawyer. But as Tess and Jack get closer to the truth, a murderer's obsession is prepared to stop them.
Save the Dates
Suffolk Mystery Authors Festival is in Suffolk, Virginia August 4th. I'll be there for all the mystery and mayhem. If you like reading mysteries and are in the area, you won't want to miss it. You can learn more about it here.
February 2019 is the scheduled release date for Death of a Debtor, the first in a new cozy mystery series I'm writing. I just got my cover, but I'm not sure I can share it yet...so stay tuned for a cover reveal.
Books I Just Read
The Thief by J.R. Ward - My sister got me hooked on the Black Dagger books, and this book in particular I was eager for because of how the one previous to this ended. I was so annoyed by the ending of the last book, I tweeted at J.R.
Ward. If you like dark, sexy, flawed Vampires on a quest to save humans, you may like this series. This book was satisfying to me in that it fixed the issue I was upset about in the last book, but of course left plot points open for future books.
Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren - This was a new to me author. I find I really like the romances written in first person,
alternating between the male and female protagonists. Similar to other authors writing like this (Lauren Blakely, Emma Chase etc), this has a very high heat factor.
Vineyard Victims by Ellen Crosby - I was on a panel with Ellen last year, and met up again with her at the Virginia Festival of the Book, but until now, hadn't read anything by her. I really enjoy cozy
mysteries, but lately, so many I've read, I didn't much care for. That wasn't the case for Vineyard Victims. I liked the writing. I liked the characters. I liked the mystery. A triple win! I liked it so much, I went out and bought another of her books.
A Deadly Cliche by Ellery Adams - Remember when I said I wasn't enjoying some of the mysteries I read recently...I
had some issues with this one. Normally I like Ellery's books, but I was annoyed that there was no way the reader could figure out the mystery, and I thought Victoria was a bit too mean at times. However, I liked the writing and the setting.
