Hi !
Next week I head to Maryland for Malice Domestic, a conference for mystery (mostly cozy) readers. I'm really excited about going. Not only will I see Louise Penny and David Suchet, but also, other great writers and readers. Plus, I'll be going with my agent, so I'll be able to pick her brain about publishing stuff and pitch her
some of my new ideas.
One of these new ideas are the planned changes to the Delecoeur novellas. Currently there are two, Worth the Risk, which is their meeting story, and Endangered, in which someone is trying kill Madeleine. The publisher I'm hoping to pitch is open to previously self-published works, and is interested in romance series.
The Delecoeurs meet that criteria, although I'll have to see if it's open to a romance series that's a married couple. The only romances I've seen that continue with the same couple are in the BDSM sub-genre (i.e. Fifty Shades of Gray), which I don't write. I think there are readers like me who'd like to read more than one book about a couple without it involving spanking or tying someone up. Am I
right?
But a series is 3 books and right now the Delecoeurs are only 2 (or since they're novellas at this point, 1/2 and 1/2). I need a third idea and maybe you can help.
I've had an idea for the Deleceours that involves Madeleine's father and the
lost Confederate Gold/Treasure. Originally, I thought I'd put it after Endangered, but now I'm wondering if I should put the time-frame after Worth the Risk before they're married, to better fit how series work.
Do you have thoughts?
