[Jenna Harte] I'm terrified...Valentines Day and More

Welcome to Jenna Harte's Updates
Hi !

I have to be honest...I'm terrified of this sixth Valentine book. It's no secret I've had a lot of struggles with it. Finally I have a draft, but as I revise it, I'm starting to doubt myself. You'd think that after 5 books, I'd feel confident about the Valentine books. Instead, I'm feeling a lot of pressure to get it done, and yet at the same, I want to take the time to make sure it's good. One bad book can ruin everything.

With that said, while I'm still shooting for a Valentine release, I may move it back slightly. I'm putting together a box set of the first three Valentine books and it makes more sense, promotional-wise, to have that be a Valentine's day release, followed up with the release of Truly, Madly, Deadly (6th book). I know it's not what many of you want to hear. I hate to disappoint you, but I'd hate even more to deliver a book you didn't like.

Death of a Debtor is heading back to my publisher next week. Then I'll need to focus on the next book, Death of a Coupon Queen. However, I still want to write a Valentine novella.

My goal of increasing my writing output hasn't come to fruition yet, but I'm hopeful that after I finish a big project I'm currently working on in my "other" life, that I'll be able to get back to my regular writing schedule.

    New on JennaHarte.com

I haven't been very active on the site lately. But I do have things going on. I'll be at the Agile Writers Conference doing two workshops, one on writing a romance and another on platform building for authors.

I'll also be at Malice Domestic in April. I won't be speaking, but I'll be hanging out with mystery writers and fans.

You can see the video below, or at JennaHarte.com or on my Youtube channel.

    Book Updates
Although it's not new, if you haven't read the holiday novella, Death Under the Mistletoe, it's a fun, short read for the busy holiday season. Plus, the sixth Valentine book takes place right after this, so you can get all caught up. The book is free for members of the SweetHarte street team.

Southern Heat box set is available now! Readers can buy each ebook individually at $3.99, or they can buy all three for $9.99 (at Amazon...other retailers may vary), which is saves over a $1.  I'd appreciate any help you can give to help spread the word.

    Free and Discount Ebooks
Don't forget that I've got several books that are available for free. Feel free to let your romance/mystery loving friends know!

Deadly Valentine, book one in the Valentine Mystery series is currently free with major ebook retailers, including Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook, iBooks, and Kobo. I'm looking at changing this in the New Year, so if you haven't grabbed it for free yet, you should do so now.

I've got so many freebies now, I've made a special page on my website just to highlight them. You can see what's currently available as well as check back for any future freebies at JennaHarte.com.

    Read, Reading, and TBR

    Read...
I've been really busy and haven't done much leisure reading. Instead, I've been binge watching The Murdoch Mysteries. I'm really getting a kick at all the people Murdoch meets (Nikola Tesla, Arthur Conan Doyle, H.G. Wells) and watching his pushing the tech advancements in criminal investigation. As you know, I'm also a fan of crime-fighting couples, but I have to say, the William-Julia romance is bugging me. It sort of reminds me of soap operas, in which a couple takes forever to get together, and then when they finally do, things go well for only one or two episodes. Then you start to see the seeds of trouble. And truth be told, William and Julia seem to have more chemistry when they're pining for each other than when they're actually together. Granted, this isn't a show with lots of PDA and romance in the first place, but William has had a more passionate scene with the woman in Bristol, England than he's had with Julia (well...the drinking in the park scene was pretty passionate). The other more passionate moments were daydreams. Still, I enjoy the mystery and seeing all the great scientific thoughts and innovations made during the turn of the century.

I'm just about done with season 3, so don't give anything away...but I'd be curious to know if you watch it and what you think.

Next up on my to-be-read (TBR)...

Have you ever noticed the TBR list never gets smaller, no matter how many books you read? Here's what's currently on my list:

The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz
The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley
Macrame Murder by Mollie Cox Bryan
Murder in an Irish Village by Carlene O'Conner
Grave Errors by Carol J. Perry
A Deadly Cliche by Ellery Adams
The Cottingley Secret by Hazel Gaynor

Have you read any of these?

What have you read, are reading or is sitting on your TBR?

    Last but not least....

    Come See Me

I've added an Upcoming Appearances page to my site. In January, I'm doing workshops on writing a swoothworthy romance and platform building for authors at the 2018 Agile Writers Conference in Richmond, Virginia.
