[Jenna Harte] What makes an enduring romance, JH news, and more!

Welcome to Jenna Harte's Updates
Hi !

I attended a workshop on author marketing with my local Sisters In Crime group. I was particularly inspired by Tina Glasneck, who like me writes (or in my case, wants to write) in multiple genres. She writes nearly a book a month! Do you suppose she ever sleeps?

What I found inspiring wasn't her output, but instead, how well she connected with her fans. That's one area I'm working to improve on.

P.S. I'm on Instagram and trying to be more active there. If you're an Instagramer, you can check out and follow my profile.

    New on JennaHarte.com

I recently posted a video pondering the question, "What makes an enduring classic love story." This question came to me when I came across several lists of top romances in history and literature, and nearly all the couples had a tragic end. Some died. Some were parted forever. I wondered if a romance needed tragedy to be considered an enduring classic.

You can see the video along with links to the lists I read at JennaHarte.com or on my Youtube channel. Then let me know your thoughts on the subject. What makes an enduring class love story?

    Book Updates
Southern Heat box set releases on Sept 28! Readers can buy each ebook individually at $3.99, or starting on Sept. 28, they can buy all three for $9.99, which is saves over a $1.  I'd appreciate any help you can give to help spread the word.

Death of a Debtor finally sold to Camel Press, about which my agent and other authors in my agency have really wonderful things to say.  I'm excited this story is going to make it into the world.

Valentine 6, is slowly but surely getting finished. Expected release date...December 2017. Hopefully I'll come up with a title by then.

All of a sudden I have pirates on the mind. My goal is to write nothing until Valentine 6 is done. And then I'll need to do edits on Death of a Debtor and start on the next book in that series. I'd also like to write a Valentine novella for the New Year. But I'm eager to pursue this new idea involving pirate-lore.

    Read, Reading, and TBR

    Read...

I just finished Callander Square by Anne Perry, who was recommended by some on on my email list. It was a good suggestion because I love mysteries with happily married couples, and her Charlotte and Thomas Pitt fit the bill.

I also read A Drink Before the War by Deniis Lehane. It's a PI mystery series (Kenzie and Gennero), but also has couple...sort of. I haven't read all the books, but I think they're an on-again-off-again couple. It was a good book, but its definitely grittier than most of the books I've been reading lately. I chose it because I have a kernel of a PI mystery series idea.

    Reading...

I just started The Fortune Teller by Gwendolyn Womack. It's about an antiques appraiser for an auction house who finds a manuscript written during Cleopatra's time. The blurb made me think of Charlie Lovett's The Bookman's Tale (which is a good read).  I've only just started The Fortune Teller, and so far I'm enjoying it, although her attraction to her client feels a little forced.

Next up on my to-be-read (TBR)...

Have you ever noticed the TBR list never gets smaller, no matter how many books you read? Here's what's currently on my list:

The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz
The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley
Macrame Murder by Mollie Cox Bryan
Murder in an Irish Village by Carlene O'Conner
Grave Errors by Carol J. Perry (maybe I'll read this next since it's nearly Halloween).

Have you read any of these?

What have you read, are reading or is sitting on your TBR?

    Last but not least....
